Mopani prepares miners for job losses

Good Morning Zambian Watchdog!

Are you aware that Mopani Copper Mines PLC today held a series of briefings at its Nkana and Mufulira mine sites that yesterday during which employees were told in no uncertain terms that the mining company will effect massive redundancies with effect from Monday, 23 November 2015. Mopani intends to shed off 3,800 employees due to the depressed commodity prices and increased cost of business attributable to the power crisis. In the wake of these massive layoffs, the once prosperous towns of Kitwe and Mufulira will be reduced to ghost towns. Unless a miracle happens, an economic Tsunami will soon visit the Copperbelt Province of Zambia.
