THREE MMD councilors have defected from the opposition party to the ruling PF citing infighting and political witch hunting in the former ruling party.
PF District Political Secretary (DPS) Beatrice Changala confirmed the development in an interview in Mpulungu District, today.
Ms. Changala said that the trio had defected to the ruling PF due to infighting in the opposition party..
She said the current infighting in the opposition party was detrimental and unhealthy to its development and had left many people wondering as to what will happen in the MMD.
Ms. Changala said people who wanted to join the party were at liberty saying there was no credible opposition party which could offer checks and balances to the ruling party hence the massive defections.
She said that the party was still strategizing ways of welcoming the defectors as there were other councilors who were intending to join the ruling party.
And welcoming the defectors Northern Province PF chairman Peter Mwansa said MMD being the biggest opposition party in the Country, had a huge challenge to organize itself and offer solid opposition to the ruling PF.
He added that people had lost confidence in MMD.
Mr. Mwansa said people had seen that the former ruling party had no capacity to redeem its self from the current infighting and political wrangles.
Mr. Mwansa has urged the three councilors to feel free and work hand in hand with executive members in recruiting more members.
Meanwhile MMD district chairman Edward Chele declined to comment on the matter and referred all queries to the deputy national secretary Chembe Nyangu.
Those who had defected are Earnest Sikazwe of Kapembwa, Jimmy Sikazwe from Mumila and George Sikazwe of Chisha ward.
