Acting Chief Justice Lombe Chibesakunda through the Supreme Court will next week create more by-elections by nullifying a number of parliamentary seats held by the MMD Members of Parliament.
A source at the Supreme Court has told the Zambian Watchdog that President Michael Sata through Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba two weeks ago instructed Lombe Chibesakunda that all pending appeals have to be disposed of before January 2014.
Among the election petitions that are still pending in the supreme court and have to be disposed of before the Justices go for Christmas holidays are Rufunsa for Kenneth Chipungu, Chembe for Mwansa Mbulakulima, Chitambo for Mushili Malama, Milanzi for Watson Banda, Masaiti for Michael Katambo, Kasenengwa for Victoria Kalima, Chadiza for Allan Mbewe, Senga Hill for Kapembwa Simbao, Mafinga for Catherine Namugala.
Others are Chipangali for Vincent Mwale, Mbala for Mwalimu Simfukwe, Chisamba for Moses Mteteka and Chipata Central for Mtolo Phiri.
It is worth noting that all the above seats belong to the MMD and all of them won the petitions in the High Court apart from Chipata Central were Lameck Mangani petitioned on grounds that Mtolo Phiri was not supposed to re-contest.
“Come Monday some seats will be nullified. I’m too sure but it should be Kasenengwa, Chitambo, Chipangali and Milanzi. One or two of these will be nullified if not all. Then Tuesday another batch. That is the Christmas present the PF is giving the people of Zambia” the source said.
