More lawyers have expressed willingness to join the defence team defending Afumba Mombotwa, Sylvester Inambao, Likando Pelekelo and Paul Masiyaleti who are facing a treason charge simply for advocating for the restoration of the Barotse agreement of 1964, which they say has been abrogated by the Zambian government.
The acting Administrator General has told the Zambian Watchdog that two Zambian and one Namibian lawyer will join the trial which has been adjourned to 7th September 2015 after appearing in the Kabwe High court today.
“We have received offers from two Zambian lawyer and one from Namibia who have expressed interest in the matter and will join the defence team currently led by Mr. Humphrey Mweemba. We cannot disclose their names for now but we have already given them some court documents and we expect them to come in the next hearing,” he said.
And the detainees were today in very high spirits flushing V (Victory) symbols in court and outside court as they were being led to the prison truck. They face the treason charge which by Zambian laws attracts a death sentence by hanging if proven guilty.
