More people arrested over Barotseland

EIGHT more people in Mongu have been arrested in connection with the illegal rally which took place at Blue Gum grounds to advocate the installation of the Barotse Agreement.

Western Province police chief Peacewell Mweemba said in a telephone interview from Mongu yesterday that eight more people were arrested, bringing the number to 10 and the culprits remained detained in custody awaiting a charge today.

“The number has increased from two to 10. We have held them in custody and we are still investigating to find a right charge for them today,” Mr Mweemba said.

On Monday night, the two ringleaders, Grace Likando and Muyangana Muyangana were arrested in connection with the illegal rally. The two were picked up on Monday night from a place known as Winela where they were hiding.

President Banda has condemned the incident, stressing that it was unlawful for people to riot and destroy property.
