More than 15, 000 pregnant teens drop out of school

Jonas Chanda, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Health, Community Development and Social Services on Wednesday said more than 15,000 girls dropped out of school in 2016 due to pregnancies.

He said Ndola secondary and primary schools were the hardest hit with teen pregnancies with Chifubu high school topping the list.

He didn’t say how many of these contracted HIV in the process, or how many were made pregnant by their teachers. The number does not include girls who got pregnant but did not drop out of school.
