More than 90 days in power, Zesco promises more load shedding today

PRESS STATEMENT
ZESCO would like to inform its esteemed customers that Generator number one at
Kafue Gorge Power Station has been shutdown to facilitate repair of punctured guide bearing oil coolers.

This Generator will be shutdown for 48 Hours beginning Monday 30July 2012 at 10.00 Hours. The works are currently being expedited.

This outage implies that there will be a deficit of 165 Mega Watts (MW) for most times of the day which will lead to increased loadsheding. This does not include about 200 MW between 17:30 and 22:00 Hours shortfall being experienced daily. The estimated total deficit during the evening peak will be about 365 MW.
ZESCO has engaged other interconnected power utilities for possible electricity imports to mitigate the shortfall.

We are therefore appealing to our esteemed customers to exercise energy efficiency in this challenging period by switching off electrical appliances that are not essential so that we conserve energy
We regret the inconvenience this has caused to our customers.
