Police say they have not yet charged UPND MP Keith Mukata because they are waiting for his lawyers to arrive. It’s not clear if Mukata’s lawyers are coming with the Togolese president or driving from Juba for them to fail to arrive from Saturday.
Regarding the woman who was arrested with Mukata, police spokesperson Esther Katongo said the police just recorded, without verifying, whatever they were told by the suspects.
Over the weekend Katongo said police had detained Mukata with his wife whom she identified as Charmaine Musonda over the death of a security guard.
But the Watchdog produced irrefutable evidence that Charmaine is not Mukata’s wife but a girlfriend.
Meanwhile, the Watchdog can reveal that Mukata has been staying at his law firm in Rhode-spark after abandoning his matrimonial home in Lusaka West where the wife and children live. Mukata also has an active case of domestic violence at a named police station for bartering his wife but police have been reluctant to call him in.
