Mpika businessman sponsors independence cup competition

By Ernest Mwape-A Mpika prominent businessman, Luka Chanda of Ichuma Bantu Trading in Northern province has sponsored this year’s Mpika district Independence cup football competition.

Ichuma Bantu proprietor has pumped two million kwacha in the competition which kicked off today, Wednesday, October the 7th.

The competition has attracted ten Mpika based amateur football teams including Mpika Youth Skills, Chibansa Police, Zambia College of Agriculture (ZCA), Tazara Blue Eagles and Mwamfushi.

Others are Shangai Blue Stars, Chilonga, Ichuma Bantu, Mpika Prisons and Mpika diocese of the Catholic Church.

The teams have been divided into three groups of three teams each with the 2008 Independence cup holders, the TAZARA Police sponsored outfit, the Blue Eagles to participate in the semi final.

Chilonga, Mpika diocese and Ichuma Bantu have been drawn in group A, while Mpika Youth Skills, ZCA and Chibansa Police are in group B.

Group C comprises Mwamfushi, Shangai Blue Stars and Mpika Prisons.

The competition kicks off this Wednesday with Chilonga playing Mpika Diocese in group A, while Mpika Youth Skills will entertain Chibansa Police in group B and Mwamfushi will rock horns with Shangai Blue Stars in group
