Mpika residents discover corpse

Tazara township residents in Mpika Northern Province last Monday retrieved a decomposed body of a 63 year old woman from Kabale stream.
Both the deceased’s brother Simon Kamanda and police confirmed the incident and named the deceased as Sofia Mushamba of Chipita Village of Chief Chikwanda.
Kamanda said his sister missed from her home last Thursday and her body was spotted by some young children who had gone fishing at the stream.
He suspects his sister might have gone to draw water when fits attacked her as she was an epileptic patient, adding that a container was found at the scene.
Kamanda said the family reported to the police, but when they got to the scene the police could not retrieve the body, but asked the bereaved family to fish it out claiming they had no gloves.
He alleged that the offices also refused to carry the body in their vehicle, but advised the family to carry it with their bare hands.
“Police at scene denied the use of the TATA pick up vehicle saying the family should carry the body on foot,” Kamanda recounted.
The deceased is survived by 2 female children.
