Mpongwe council suspends MMD councillors

Mpongwe district council chairman Davy Chipamu and two other MMD councillors who refused to join defector area MP Gabriel Namulambe have been suspended from performing their civic duties.
The meeting held on 23rd April chaired by Namulambe resolved to suspend the three civic leaders accusing them of failing to run the council.
“The council meeting held on 22nd and continued on 23rd April, 2016 resolved to suspend you due to the allegations leveled against you,” read the letter dated 26th April, 2013 signed by council secretary W. Kasonkomona and copied to Local government and housing permanent secretary, Copperbelt province local government officer and to Namulambe.
The other two are Gregory Ngowani, Mpongwe central and Jacob Banda for Kalweo ward but the trio have maintained that they have not been charged with any offence but they are only being persecuted for refusing to defect to the PF.
Council workers in the Copperbelt district have not been paid for the past eight months.
