A Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Parastatal bodies has recommended that Savenda Management Services should be reported to Law enforcement agencies for fraud. Mr. Douglas Siakalima who is UPND Chirundu Member of Parliament made the recommendation when Finance Permanent Secretary Mukuli Chikuba accompanied by senior Management for the Public Service Pensions Fund appeared by before the committee.
The committee heard that Savenda duped PSPF by supplying a Genset with different specifications from the one on the tender document. The PS told the committee that in May 2014 Savenda supplied PSPF a Genset with 160 KVA when the tender specifications were 300KVA at a cost of K128,384. Further the committee heard that Savenda put a sticker on the Genset indicating 300KVA when infact it was of inferior capacity. PSPF Director for Benefits Sampa Kangwa disclosed that PSPF was duped by Savenda. He said the matter was taken to court but it was withdrawn.
The disclosure of the theft prompted Mr. Douglas Siakalima the Chirundu MP to question why a company that duped government over a Genset should be given a contract to supply Ambulances. He said the fact that Savenda pretended the Genset met the tender specification when infact not is criminal on its own. He advised the PSPF management to report Savenda to law enforcement agencies for fraud.
Committee Chairperson Patricia Mwashingwele told the Finance PS and PSPF management that there was something fishy and asked them to resubmit the report to the committee within two weeks.
