The scandal rocked Mulungushi university has deferred the payment of the workers’ pay as you earn and diverted the same money to management’s gratuity account from which they have been paying themselves hefty sums.
According to the information from the minutes of one of the university meetings, the scam has gone on for over two years. Recently the university management paid themselves gratuity for their two year contracts in which the lowest paid got K180,000 K180m in old currency).
The management has also resolved to defy the statutory retirement age of 60 years but decided to stick to 55 years.
The NAPSA (Amended Act) 2015 puts 55 years as optional early retirement and 60 and 65 years as normal and late retirement respectively but the Hellicy Ngambi led university resolved not to be bound by that amendment.
