Mulungushi University management swindles K250,000 from students

Vice chancellor Professor Hellicy Ngambi and her management at Mulungushi university in Kabwe has swindled over 1,000 students of over K250,000 in fake bursaries which have not materialised.

Last year, the university circulated a memorandum that the university had secured a partnership with an organisation to award bursaries to students and asked all interested students to apply with an application fee of K250 but to date none of the applicants has ever been awarded that bursary.

Seeing the memo which was signed by Ngambi and her registrar, almost all the students jostled for an opportunity to have the bursaries and paid the application fees. Thereafter they were told to wait and are still ‘waiting’ while some shall even be graduating at the end of this month.

When asked on which institution partnered with the university, a high placed source said that the matter was introduced in one of the meetings by Professor Ngambi herself and all money collected from the exercise was deposited in a separate account specifically opened for the same exercise.

Some members of the academic staff who have questioned about the activity have either had their contracts terminated or threatened while students ae also threatened with expulsions. The matter has however infuriated some students who have warned of ‘unspecified action’ against the Voce Chancellor.
