Mulungushi university resolves to lay off 105 workers

Mulungushi university management has resolved to lay off 105 employees and have their services outsourced as a way of cutting down on the wage bill.

The resolution to lay off the workers was arrived at during a meeting held on 4th April 2016 at the University. This is according to minute 132/2016 page 113 accessed by the Watchdog.

The meeting was attended by vice chancellor Professor Hellicy Ngambi, her deputy Dr. Judith Lungu, Registrar Gubula Siachiti, Bursar Derrick Chilembo, Librarian Gertrude Kayombo and Dean of students Pandey Syachaba.

The scandal rocked Hellicy Ngambi led management has struck deals with fellow crooks who will be given contracts in the catering, security and sanitation areas where the affected employees are currently deployed.

Just this week, labour minister Fackson Shamenda directed UTH to reverse the termination of 300 jobs, saying they should be employed as contractual or permanent after the outlawing of casualisation.

Meanwhile, the Watchdog is investigating the case where the university management has unlawfully appointed a pension fund manager and the illegal diversion of workers’ Pay as you earn (PAYE) to a gratuity account used to pay themselves huge gratuity sums.
