Mumba loses candidature case to RB

Lusaka High Court judge Chalwe Mchenga has dismissed an injunction in which MMD president Nevers Mumba wanted to prevent the party from suspending him.

This means that former President Rupiah Banda is the valid presidential candidate for the January 20, 2015 presidential by-election.

Nevers Mumba had taken the MMD to court for suspending him. Mumba has sought an injunction to restrain MMD national secretary Muhabi Lungu from suspending him. But the court said Mumba did not specify exactly what he wanted the court to do as the injunction was very general.

Both Mumba and Banda were at Mulungushi conference centre to attend a meeting organised by the Electoral Commission of Zambia when they were informed. Mumba left immediately.
