MMD leader Nevers Mumba says it was wrong for the Zambian government to send a party functionary instead of government officials to the funeral of late president of Ghana, Attah Mills.
Mumba who also attended the funeral of Mills said it was embarrassing to see that Home Affairs Minister Edgar Lungu and Gender Minister Inonge Wina were blocked from the private gallery where dignitaries were seated as Zambia was represented by Wynter Kabimba.
The MMD leader was speaking Tuesday when he opened a three day retreat at Kulpark Lodge in Chilanga.
Mumba, who was invited by the Ghanaian government due to recognition of the MMD and Mumba’s own standing as a diplomat, wondered who paid for Wynter Kabimba.
He wondered how Kabimba the Secretary General of the ruling party could be head of the delegation which included ministers when it was a State Funeral not a party function.
Mumba said at the advent of democracy in 1991, the country decided that there should be separation between government and the party in power.
He said sending party cadres or officials to inter-government functions confuses protocol and leads to embarrassment of ministers.
