Ministry of Finance Spokesperson Chileshe Kandeta has confirmed that finance minister Felix Mutati told parliament that Zambia’s current external debt is $17.2 billion.
But Kandeta claims that his boss Felix Mutati boobed when reading the state of the economy speech to parliament.
Kandeta contradicted Mutati and claimed that Zambia could not accumulate external date exceeding US$10 billion within five months.
“It was a slip [of the tongue], it’s US$7.2 billion not US$17 billion. He was looking at the statement, but you know figures… there can always be a slip,” Kandeta explained.
This is actually a lie, even the statements itself showed $17.2 billion
