Mwinilunga hospital has no oxygen machine

Mwinilunga East UPND MP Stephen Katuuka says the non availability of an oxygen machine at Mwinilunga district hospital is dangerous as it puts the life of critically ill patients at risk.

And the Zambian watchdog is in receipt of information that the oxyegen concentrator which was supplied to the hospital about three months ago by a businessman close to the PF was defective and has never worked since installation.

Mr. Katuuka, who made the disclosure in Lusaka said the current state of affairs if not corrected was putting the lives of critically ill patients at risk. He has since called on government to seriously address the matter before lives are lost.

Meanwhile government is stuck with the dubiously acquired oygen concentrator which was installed at the hospital but failed to work because the procurement was shrouded in corruption. A reliable source from the ministry of health has told the Watchdog that the second hand machine was defective even before it was installed but that government had already paid a collossal amount. The source further said that government officials have been pleading with the supplier to bring in another new machine but that he has vanished with the money.
