Former Deputy Speaker Mutale Nalumango says she is disappointed by labour minister Fackson Shamenda.
Nalumango, a former labour minister says Shamenda is imposing the minimum wage without following procedure.
Nalumango said she is personally disappointed by Shamenda’s failure to use his vast experience in labour matters to implement the revised minimum wage in an accepted manner.
She wondered why the PF regime through Shamenda did not consult employers before imposing how much they should pay their workers.
She said Shamenda’s attitude is what is causing the problem where most people have rejected the minimum wage imposed by government.
Nalumango said government should have sat down with farmers for example and make them understand why they should pay the minimum wage.
She said government should also have listed to farmers and hear if they are able to make that kind of money as required by the new law.
Nalumango said Shamenda should realise that he is no longer in a trade union but in government and therefore should not take sides.
Nalumango recalled that there has never been such a problem in Zambia.
