NAREP bemoans low turnout for verification in Mongu

National Restoration Party (NAREP) says the closure of Radio Lyambai in Mongu greatly contributed to the low turnout of voters verifying their details in Western Province.

NAREP National Secretary John Phiri said limited access to information in the Province was an infringement on people’s rights.

He said his party was saddened that people in the Province had little access to important information despite this being an election year.

Phiri said a survey carried out by NAREP confirmed that about 20 people were verifying their details per day as most of them were not aware of the exercise.

He said it is disheartening to note that the infringement of people’s rights on access to information in Mongu is depriving voters of vital electoral information.

Phiri further said citizens have really been disadvantaged due to the closure of Radio Lyambai as it attracted masses and people has d access to information in their local language, adding that there is need to for Government to reconsider the move.
