The Executive director of National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) has been suspended with immediate effect.
The NRFA board has sent Raphael Mabenga packing pending a probe on how his expired contract was renewed by the ministry of finance.
The Watchdog understands that cabinet had directed that Mabenga’ contract should not be renewed. This appears to be part of government effort to address the financial scams that rocked the road sector. Donors have withheld funding to the sector due to financial scams. Donors have also withheld loans and other favourable facilities to the energy sector leaving ZESCO to borrow from commercial lenders instead of the World Bank and IMF.
Recently, officials at the Road Development Agency were sent on forced leave to facilitate investigations into financial irregularities.
