Nationwide strike looming as govt deducts K2m from each doctor

The government has deducted K2, 000, 000 (two million) from each and every Zambian medical doctor from their December 2012 salaries.

No explanation has been given but doctors are mobilising themselves to go on strike.

The Doctors went to the bank expecting their normal salaries and a Christmas bonus but discovered that there was no Christmas bonus and that even their regular salaries have been cut.

No explanation has been given for the deduction and officials at Ministry of Finance are not telling doctors anything.

Doctors are phoning each other and planning action and may go on strike by the next week if the situation is not corrected.
