MMD President Nevers Mumba yesterday survived lynching by youths hired by Chinsali District Commissioner Everlyn Nampanzi.Dr. Mumba who is in Chinsali attending a funeral for the father of former Private Secretary at State House Robinson Nkonde, almost experienced a similar beating as that of the BIGOCA worshippers in Lusaka.
According to sources from Chinsali, the District Commissioner hired some youths to beat up Dr. Mumba after mourners stopped the District Commissioner from addressing them after Dr. Mumba had already addressed them.
“After Dr. Mumba had addressed the mourners, the DC also stood up and said she had a message from President Sata but mourners rejected to her proposal so she went to hire some youths to beat up Dr. Mumba” the source said.
The source said Dr. Mumba was only saved when the same youths went to tell him that the District Commissioner had paid them money to beat him.
The source said Dr. Mumba then advised the youths to take back the money but the youths said they could not take the money back because it was theirs.
Meanwhile, some family members to the late Mr. Nkonde have expressed disappointment at the lies being peddled by the same District Commissioner that Government had provided a Helicopter to transport the body of Mr. Nkonde from Lusaka to Chinsali.
The family members say it is the family that hired the Zambia Air-force Helicopter to transport the body and that there was no government involvement. The family members say even when Mr. Nkonde fell sick it was the family that hired a helicopter to bring him to Lusaka.
