Newly constructed Lumumba road already cracking

The newly rehabilitated Lumumba Road in Lusaka has started developing potholes thereby raising concern among motorists.

The 7.2 kilometers stretch was only reconstructed a few months ago by Avic International.
The works at a total cost of 43 million United States Dollars included the construction of Ngwerere Road as well as expansion of Great North and Mungwi Roads.

Some drivers have urged authorities to ensure that the works are redone as the road is becoming dangerous.

Road Development Agency Director Communications and Corporate Affairs Manager Masuzyo Ndhlovu says the contractor will be advised to redo the portions as the damage has happened within the defect liability period.

Germans are building roads in Hyderabad city in India for 1km 55-60lakh rupees(approx 90000$/km)
    Why it’s costing you millions?
And any problem they will take care of the road for free in next 20years
If any one don’t believe check in youtube it will show

Main note -they are using the old road waste as materials

I am now in my late 50s. When I was at college in the 80s lumumba road was being worked on. I challenge you journalists to dig up how much money has been spent on this road since 1990. This is not the only road in Zambia but it has gobbled up about 50 percent of Zambia s road maintenance funds. Who is stealing from the project? Is it where corrupt lusaka city council officials make their money from? What engineers have worked on this project? Where are they? How much do they have at present? MA journalists tell us

This is what you get when a government of amateurs allocates workscopes to incompetent (Chinese) contractors without even a hint of a (mandarory) tender process, and when that same government of amateurs then turns a blind eye when the work appears to be shoddy!

THE WATCHDOG SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST GIVEN AN INDICATION OF WHICH PART OF LUMUMBA ROAD IS DAMAGED BECAUSE EVEN THE PICTURE DOES NOT SHOW THE BUILDINGS ON THE SIDES FOR PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO VERIFY THIS STORY, THE PICTURE IS VERY MUCH HIDING THE DETAILS HENCE PEOPLE WOULD SAY THE STORY IS NOT VALID BECAUSE THE PICTURE IS DELIBERATELY CONCEALING DETAILS
