Ngambela on BBC: we are forming our own Barotse country

The Ngambela of Western province, Clement Sinyinda, says the Barotse people of Western province will press ahead with the resolutions of the just ended Barotse National Council (BNC) meeting.

Speaking in an interview with BBC network Africa this morning, the Ngambela said it was the will of the people they were following.

Asked whether it was not being bitter because he is a former losing MMD party leaders that did not respect the Barotse Agreement, Mr. Sinyinda said he was one of the few former leaders that did not contest elections but instead supported the current PF government because it had promised to honour the agreement.

“I went round the province campaigning for the PF leadership because they had promised to honour the agreement and they won elections here”, he said.

The Ngambela said there was nothing to fear because it was the people themselves that have resolved to secede from the rest of Zambia.

The BNC meeting resolved to secede from the rest of Zambia, a move government has said was irresponsible and treasonable.
