NGOCC says PF afraid of new constitution, while PF says will ignore constitution calls

The Non Governmental Coordinating Council (NGOCC) says it is convinced beyond doubt that the people of Zambia will never be given a new Constitution because the party in power is allegedly supercilious.

And the Patriotic Front in the Northern Province has reiterated its call on people to ignore those demanding for the new constitution.

NGOCC Board Chairperson Beatrice Grillo has told Qfm News in an interview that if government delivers the Constitution towards the general election it will be considered as a political gimmick.

Grillo says this is especially that it is a known fact that there are a number of contentious issues that the Patriotic Front (PF) government is allegedly avoiding in the final draft constitution.

She says it is also for this reason that her organization maintains that unless the PF government is forced, it will not deliver a people driven constitution before 2016.

Meanwhile PF Northern province Provincial Secretary Everest Chela said his government will ignore calls for a new constitution.

Chela this when he addressed a public meeting held at Mungwi’s Presidents Park on Friday, according to Radio Mano News.

Chela stated that it is not the constitution that will end poverty but good policies of the government.

He charged that it is therefore imperative for the people to demand for developmental projects such as good roads among others.

Chela has since implored on the general citizenry to change their minds regarding the issue of the constitution and support the PF government saying it has implemented a number of developmental projects within a three year period of its ruling.
