After failing to release results again at 15 hours, the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has called for a meeting with all presidential candidates.
Meanwhile, defending champion Edgar Lungu has gone to the ECZ headquarters to ‘protest’ over something. All other candidates including main challenger Hakainde Hichilema are at the Mulungushi waiting for the meeting.
Meanwhile reports reaching the Watchdog is that in Kaoma, there are near riots as people are tired of waiting for the ECZ to announce the results.
The ECZ has now said it might announce the first results at 18 hours, exactly 24 hours after voting ended.
There are conflicting reports on why the ECZ is delaying announcing the results, with one school of thought suggesting that they want people to riot then in the ensuing confusion manipulate results as police and soldiers who are on standby will be called in. This can be very dangerous even for the ruling party because results seen by the Watchdog show that most soldiers and police officers voted for the UPND. Gonda barracks in Eastern province voted for UPND by 80 per cent.
The other school of thought is that the ECZ is actually trying to be professional but is being put under pressure by the PF to announce the fake results they have been posting on social media including disgruntled website like Zambia Reports.
