An up to now unknown Council of elders in North western province has pledged its support to President Rupiah Banda and the ruling MMD government.
The council of elders say president Banda has developed the region.
Council of Elders Chairperson Lukas Chikoti said his council has confidence in the government of the day under the leadership of President Banda saying it is the only political party which can bring the desired development to the province.
Mr. Chikoti said this in Solwezi yesterday when his organization ‘s members paid a courtesy call on newly appointed Deputy Permanent Secretary Fabian Mumba at his office.
He said the council of elders is more than ready and willing to work with the MMD government to accelerate development for the benefit of all people in the province.
The chairperson charged that the province had lacked development despite being rich in mineral resources saying this can only be readdressed when people in the province join hands in supporting government.
Speaking earlier, Deputy Permanent Secretary Fabian Mumba said it important for people in the province to come on board and support initiatives by government aimed at improving their living standards.
Mr. Mumba said government means well for the people of North-Western Province and urged them to remain united because unity is the only vehicle to social and economic development.
He said his office is open to the elders for counsel and guidance adding that this will help the two parties do things in conformity with people’s expectations.
