President Edgar Lungu has directed Zesco management to investigate what caused the embarrassing blackouts at Heroes stadium on Tuesday evening during an international friendly match between Zambia and Gabon which Lungu went to watch.
While there has been load shedding in almost all parts of the country, Lungu suspects that the stadium blackout could have been engineered by ‘opposition parties who want to hijack government programmes’.
Both State house officials and Zesco spokesperson Henry Kapata have confirmed that there are ‘investigations’ that will be carried out. Kapata denies the blackout being caused by the periodic load shedding.
Recently Lungu, whose PF government has maintained that the power blackouts being experienced country wide are naturally caused due to insufficient rainfall directed Zesco to evenly load shed all areas. This followed complaints from citizens that some areas were being cut off more than others.
