Information has emerged that Edgar Lungu the Minister of Defense and Justice yesterday threatened Matero Member of Parliament Miles Sampa that he would spill the beans over his links to the death of NIPA Student Ruth Mbandu.
Both Lungu and Sampa claim to be legitimate presidents of the PF, the outgoing ruling party.
A source has disclosed that Edgar Lungu through an emissary Stephen Kampyongo who is Home Affairs Deputy Minister threatened Sampa that as former Home Affairs Minister, he was privy to information linking Sampa to the mysterious death of Ruth Mbandu. The source said in return, Sampa told Kampyongo to tell Lungu to go ahead and spill the beans because Lungu will also be implicated for misprision, failing to report a crime.
“They are at each other, Lungu threatens Sampa and Sampa says Lungu then is also an accomplice to the alleged crime because if he knows the suspects, he should tell the Police,” the source said.
Apparently, Lungu wants Sampa to back down and instead accept to be vice-president. Lungu said he is willing to discuss with Sampa the possibility of their working together but on condition that Sampa accepts to be party vice-president. If Sampa does not accept, Lungu would arrest him for the murder of Ruth Bandu when he Lungu becomes republican president.
Ruth Mbandu a National Institute for Public Administration (NIPA) student was murdered as she returned from visiting her uncle in Kabanana compound. Her body was found in Matero stadium owned by Lusaka Tigers the team financed by Miles Sampa. Her face was skinned off.
Current Deputy Inspector General of Police Solomon Jere then Lusaka Province Police Commissioner at a highly packed Press briefing disclosed that some high profile politician was linked to the death of Ruth Mbandu. The following day, late President Michael Sata promoted Lungu to the current position.
It can now be concluded that both Lungu and Sampa know something about the death of Ruth Mbandu. No wonder Lungu has the support of people linked to the death of former President Fredrick Chiluba. Only time will tell. Everybody wants their crimes covered.
