President Rupiah Banda says the nullification of the election of opposition UPND’s Elliot Kamondo as Member of Parliament for Mufumbwe is an affirmation that Zambians hate violence.
The Lusaka High Court yesterday nullified the election on grounds that there was extreme violence, intimidation and destruction of property in the run up to the April 29, 2010 by-election.
Speaking at the MMD’s Fund raising Presidential dinner dance last night whose theme was “celebrating the unprecedented levels of development” president Banda said the court’s verdict was in line with the will of Zambians.
President Banda reiterated that he wants the country to conduct violence free tripartite elections next year.
The President also cautioned MMD members that he will not defend anyone of them who should be found wanting by perpetuating violence.
President Banda has also advised leaders of opposition political parties to publically denounce violence ahead of next year’s tripartite elections.
