The government says the money forfeited by public workers who recently went on strike has been taken back to the treasuary.
Finance minister Situmbeko Musokotwane told the government news channel ZNBC that the money will be channeled to infrastructural development.
He said the national budget is small and therefore such monies will be quickly utilised for other projects.
“As you know the our budget is slow so we shall use it for other things. In short money will go back to treasury,” said Dr. Musokotwane
Last month nurses through out the country staged a 37 days strike demanding improved conditions of service. The government said the strike was illegal.
When the strikes ended, president Banda ordered that the nurses should not be paid for the period they stayed away from work.
