One dead in Pantoon disaster

One Person has died after sustaining injuries during an operation to rescue several people that got stranded on the Zambezi River.
Western Province Permanent Secretary has confirmed the death of Joseph Mukwankila.
Several other people have been rescued including the Deputy Managing Director of Engineering Services Corporation(ESCO) a government institution that operates Pontoons in Zambia. The trapped people were trying to retrive a pontoon that drifted away on the Zambezi River in Western Province.
People of Sioma are still using a Pontoon despite Government constructing a very expensive bridge. The previous MMD government started constructing the Pontoon somewhere in 2010 and it was completed last month.
People of Western Province will continue dying until outgoing President Edgar Lungu commissions the Bridge as he wants to use it as a Campaign tool for August elections.
