One person has been reportedly killed in Mongu in the on-going operations to arrest Lozis celebrating the inauguration of a Mr Afumba Mombotwa as Administrator General of Barotseland.
And soldiers have moved into Mongu and joined the police in arresting anyone suspected of having taken part in the celebrations.
Eyewitnesses say an un-identified person was shot during operations on Thursday and his body was immediately bundled in a green police Land cruiser and taken some unknown destination. Several other people are said to have been injured in the indiscriminate beating that followed.
According to Barotse Post, six people have so far been arrested in Mongu alone; notable among them is Mr. Kalaluka Muleta, a renowned civil servant and a physically challenged Mukumbuta Akakandelwa of Imwiko township in his 40s together with his 87 years old father.
Another notable among the arrested is Mrs. Etambuyu Akapelwa who is also Linyungandambo women league chairperson who was arrested together with her 1-year-old grandson. She was also interrogated about the operations of her women’s league.
In Kalabo, the number of those arrested has now risen to 34, eleven of which were arrested yesterday after the swearing in of Administrator General. It is further reported that those arrested were early this evening transferred to Mungu central prison.
A Mr Afumba Mombotwa two days ago took oath of office administrator General of Barotseland, after which he, among other things, warned that any Zambian acts of terrorism, would not go un punished.
The Zambian security forces immediately moved in.
