Only 4 out of 50 cooperatives get farming inputs in Serenje

Only 4,000 out of the 22,000 farmers in Serenje District have received farming inputs for this farming season.
The remaining 18,000 farmers are yet to receive their inputs despite having paid their K400 contribution required to activate their electronic voucher cards.
Nchimushi Farming camp chairperson Evans Nkandu has stated that only four out of about 50 Cooperatives in his area have received farming inputs.
Nkandu lamented that this was despite farmers paying the required money to UBA and Barclays Bank Mkushi Branch on December 27 and 29th respectively.
Distribution of farming inputs has been chaotic but the government has resorted to blaming civil servants and the opposition for the delay.
They have also been giving conflicting statements with Agriculture Minister Dora Siliya blaming the delay on last Augusts’ elections while President Lungu is blaming civil servants.
Lungu is currently on a two day ‘fact finding’ mission in Eastern Province checking on the effect of his governments’ poor management of the agriculture sector.
