Operations at Nangoma Mission Hospital have grounded to a halt following the power blackout after ZESCO installed pre-paid meters at the health institution.
Acting Mumbwa District Medical Officer Reward Sibanda confirmed to ZANIS in Mumbwa today that the hospital has been in the dark from 20.00 hours yesterday because ZESCO has installed six pre-paid meters in six strategic points of the institution.
Dr Sibanda said since the tokens ran out yesterday, all the departments including the mortuary have had no power which has also resulted in the operations to ground to halt.
Dr Sibanda however, said he has already engaged some senior people at the Ministry of health and ZESCO to ensure that the problem is sorted out as soon as possible.
The Medical officer appealed to ZESCO to consider putting health institutions on post paid as they cannot afford tokens any time power goes off.
Efforts to get a comment from ZESCO customer services in Mumbwa failed as his mobile phone was outside coverage.
