Vice president George Kunda has maintained that certain aspects of the media in Zambia need to be regulated.
Kunda claimed that some journalists have approached government to show solidarity on the need to statutory regulate the media.
He said it was only quacks who have no journalism training that are opposing the move.
Speaking during the vice president’s question time in parliament today, Kunda said well meaning journalists have been advocating and making representations that they should be regulated.
He said that while the media in Zambia was to some extent already regulated by some existing statutory laws, there is need to further statutory regulation for certain aspects.
He says the government bill on media regulation is ready but that government is waiting to see if the media have a better bill which they can present to parliament through the private members’ motion.
