National Restoration Party (NAREP) Leader Elias Chipimo has called on government to tell the nation how expenditure has been used towards the various commissions of inquiry set up by President Michael Sata.
In an interview, Chipimo said the new regime should disclose how much public resources have been utilized by the commissions to allow for transparency.
He noted that transparency is vital because if there is secrecy in government operations it will undermine the very goals that the Patriotic Front (PF) aims to achieve.
Meanwhile, Alliance for Democracy and Development (ADD) President Charles Milupi demanded that the new regime discloses how much it has spent on all the commissions of inquiry.
Milupi said it is important for citizens to know how much money was budgeted and has been used by the commissions of inquiry.
He noted that informing Zambians on how public resources are being utilized will allow for checks and balances in government operations.
Commenting on the opposition’s demands, Chief Government Spokesperson, Given Lubinda disclosed that government will only tell the nation how much the commissions used once they complete their work and present findings.
Lubinda further said the PF appreciate the need for citizens to know what is going on, but information can only be availed once all commissions finish their work.
