PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STATEMENT ATTRIBUTED TO HON. WYNTER KABIMBA THAT MP SHOULD SEEK PERMISSION FROM THE POLICE WHENEVER THEY WANT TO VISIT THEIR CONSTITUENCIES
Operation Young Vote is gravely appalled at the statement attributed to Hon. Wynter Kabimba where he says that Members of Parliament should seek police clearance whenever they wanted to visit their constituents in their constituencies.
Firstly, if this statement is really true then we must put it on record that we as a country do not only have a wrong character in the position of the Minister of Justice but also a misguided politician in the name of the Secretary General of a ruling party who is supposed to be an icon and a beacon of political maturity and co-existence in a democratic dispensation like Zambia. Surely Mr. Kabimba should realize that Zambia is a country, democratic for that matter and should be governed on the principles and norms of required standards and not like ones chicken run.
Secondly, we are vexed as young people that leaders of who the Zambians gave the mandate but more so the privilege to govern the country are overstepping their boundaries by wanting to rule by decree and abuse their powers and offices including the institutions of governance such as the police.
OYV would like to take this opportunity to advice the police and other institutions of governance in the country to desist from being abused as the leaders currently serving in these institutions will be left all by themselves in the cold to answer these abuses when the time for reckoning dawns. To Mr. Kabimba, we say that Zambians, especially the young people are not ready to toil this kind of governing the country and that he should be reminded that he can do better.
