Panji Kaunda transferred for reporting GBM’s corruption in defence ministry

Panji

President Michael Sata has quietly removed Panji Kaunda from his position as deputy minister of defence, the Watchdog understands.

Panji was removed from the defence ministry for fighting the heavy corrupt activities by Defence minister Geoffrey Mwamba (GBM)’ and his family.

Early this year, the army engaged a company owned by GBM and his brother to rehabilitate and renovate some lodging facilities for army officers.

But the work done by company owned by defence minister Mwamba’s family was shoddy and the lodging facilities looked worse than before they were renovated.

GBM’s family demanded payment from the army but army commander General Paul Mihova refused to pay saying the work done was disastrous.

He demanded that the company should do a good job before payment can be made.

But the army commander was ignored and payment was made in full. Defence minister Panji Kaunda was then briefed and went to report the matter to president Sata.

The next day he received a letter of transfer to the ministry of Works- in the same capacity.
