Parley reserves ruling on ‘banned’ MMD serving ministers

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Mkhondo Lungu has reserved a ruling where Monze Central MP Jack Mwiimbu raised a point of order on whether the MMD Ministers appointed by President Michael Sata were in order to continue in their offices when their party was deregistered.

Mr. Lungu said his office will give the ruling on the status of the Ministers and other MMD MPs on a later date.
The Registrar of Society today announced the deregistration of the MMD
which has made the former ruling party a non existence party in
Zambia.

Sata has appointed a number of MMD MPs as Ministers in his administration who by now should vacate office.
The Deputy Speaker has meanwhile ordered Agriculture Minister to give
a ministerial statement tomorrow on the importation of chickens by
South Africa chain stores, Shoprite, and War mart (Game Stores).
This was after Mazabuka Central MP Garry Nkombo who was referring to
an article in today’s Daily Mail newspaper which had the heading ‘Beware chicken lovers’ raised a point of order as to whether government was in order to allow international chain stores to import chicken which would kill the poultry industry in Zambia.
