Parliament postpones hearing report on Mutembo Nchito appointment as DPP

The National Assembly on Friday postponed the presentation of the report on the appointment of Mutembo Nchinto as DPP because most PF MPs were not in parliament.

And the Parliamentary Select Committee on the appointment of the DPP has ‘washed’ Nchito and said he is fit to hold the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Committee which is chaired by MMD MP for Solwezi Central Lucky Mulusa was scheduled to present its report to the whole house on Friday.

But Parliament contacts have explained that the item was withdrawn after realising that a lot of PF MPs were out.

‘The government leaned hard on the speaker to remove that item because they did not want to risk losing on the vote as  a good number of MPs from the PF were not in parliament,’ said a source.

PF MPs like Chishimba Kambwili, Geoffrey Mwamba and other were in Uganda with president Sata the past week while Guy Scott and others are in China.

The presentation of the report was postponed to next Tuesday.

After the presentation of the report, the whole house is expected to debate and vote on whether Nchito will be the next DPP.

Other members of the select committee are Levy Ngoma, Lackson Kazabu,  Vitalis Moya, (UPND)and  Cornelius Mweetwa (UPND).

The security wings, which are the police, OP, ACC and Drug enforcement commission are said to have said they have no pending cases against Nchito. The Law Association of Zambia objected to the appointment of Nchito.
