Petauke teachers burnt by chemicals while preparing exams, one dead

Elasto Banda, a teacher at Nsenya primary school in Petauke died after a day in hospital and was buried last Friday. One teacher is still battling for his life at St Francis Hospital in Katete District. The teacher still hospitalized was evacuated from Petauke hospital to St Francis, which has relatively better equipment than the hospital in Petauke.

‘They got burnt when they were preparing specimens for practicals for grade 9 mock examinations in science,’ a source told the Watchdog.

One teacher complained that ‘the new curriculum of government is killing us. Most of primary school teacher’s are not qualified to teach science.’
