The ruling PF is poised to win 3 out of the 5 constituency by-elections held around the country while the opposition UPND and MMD have shared the other two constituencies.
By time of publishing, PF were leading in Zambezi West, Vubwi, and Mkushi South constituencies while the UPND candidate for Solwezi Central, Dawson Kafwaya, had already been declared the winner.
MMD’s Victoria Kalima had a massive lead in Kasenengwa by-election.
Four of the seats Vubwi (Eustacio Kazonga), Kasenengwa (Victoria Kalima), Solwezi Central (Lucky Mulusa), and Mkushi South (Sydney Chisanga), were previously held by the MMD, while Zambezi West (Charles Kakoma) was held by UPND.
If finally confirmed, it will be a great victory for the female candidates in this round.
These are MMD’s Victoria Kalima (Kasenengwa), PF’s Christabel Ngimbu (Zambezi West), and PF’s Margaret Miti (Vubwi).
Though marred by the usual irregularities such as vote buying, this round of elections has been generally peaceful, perhaps since the Wynter Kabimba camp withdrew from PF campaigns.
Zambezi West is one of the remotest parts on Zambia and finally results may not be ready till possibly saturday as the Electoral Commission of Zambia would have to use Helicopters to get the final result certificates.
