PF benefiting from fertilizer imports-GBM

The outgoing PF government does not want Nitrogen Chemicals to operate at full capacity because they are benefiting from corruption through importation of fertilizer, UPND presidential running mate Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) has charged.
Speaking when he featured on Radio Phoenix on Thursday morning, Mwamba alleged that importation of fertilizer has only benefited ministers and maybe the President himself but promised that this will come to an end once the UPND forms government.
‘Come August 11th there will be no need to import fertilizer,’ Mwamba said.
Nitrogen Chemicals of Zambia has the capacity to produce 142,000 metric tons if operated at full capacity but the country has continued importing expensive fertilizer.
And Mwamba has noted that Kafue textiles was almost nonexistent yet political parties were spending a lot of money importing chitenge materials for political regalia.
‘Every political party wants chitenge material but we are empowering foreign companies with millions of dollars through imports,’ Mwamba lamented.
Mwamba also wondered why the government has failed to reopen Mulungushi textiles in Kabwe.
Outgoing President Edgar Lungu had personally promised to ensure that Mulungushi textiles was reopened when he was campaigning during last years’ Presidential by-election but the factory has not opened to date.
