PF cadres appear in court for assault

Eight Patriotic Front (PF) cadres today pleaded not guilty to three counts of unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm in a case where they have been jointly
charged.

The eight are Lameck Mwila 31, Moses Nsofu 51, of Chaisa compound, Jackson Lupashaya 41, of Chibolya compound, Moses Mwaba 29, of Garden compound and Lazarous Mphande 42, of Marapodi compound.

Others are Tranos Mukanya 40, of Kaunda Square, Paulsen Kakoma 27 and Kenny Zimba also aged 27 from Kanyama compound.

The cadres appeared before Principal Resident Magistrate Aridah Chulu to take plea on charges of unlawful wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Particulars of offence were that in the first count, Lameck Mwila, Jackson Lupashaya and Moses Mwaba on November 7, 2013 in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting together with other persons unknown
allegedly did cause lawful wounding occasioning bodily harm to Julius Nkomaki.

And in the second count, Lameck Mwila, Lazarous Mphande and Tranos Mukanya on November 7, 2013 in Lusaka jointly whilst acting together with other persons unknown allegedly unlawfully wounded Peter Nkole.

While in the third count Paulsen Kakoma, Kenny Zimba and Lameck Mwila on November 7, 2013 in Lusaka jointly and whilst acting together allegedly did assault Douglas Banda thereby accessioning bodily harm.

The accused persons’ lawyer Friday Besa applied for bail on behalf of his clients saying the accused were charged with bailable offences and would also abide by the bail conditions and that they would also raise sufficient sureties.

Magistrate Chulu granted the accused a K1,000 cash bail each with two working surities and said they would remain in custody until they meet the bail conditions.

The case will come up for mention on November 27, 2013 while trial in the matter commences on January 23, 2014.
