PF cadres beat up independent candidate

An Independent candidate contesting the position of Council Chairperson of the newly-created Lusangazi District in Eastern Province is nursing injuries at St Francis Hospital after being attacked by PF cadres.

Patrick Menyani Banda who condemned the violent political campaigns, told Breeze FM that he was attacked over the weekend by ten PF cadres.

He revealed that the cadres, who were using a Toyota Land Cruiser without a number plate pointed a gun at his head and threatened him with knives.

Banda, who says he recognized two of his assailants, explained that they beat him up and shot his cousin Osman Maumba on his ear with a pistol.

He says his cousin has since been evacuated to South Africa as his condition is not stable.

Banda, who has bruises on his face says the attackers stole about K80,000 and other items from him.

Meanwhile, Provincial Police Commissioner Luckson Sakala who confirmed receiving the complaint from Banda says he has advised the victim to report the matter to Petauke Police Station.

He says this is because the documents from the victim shows that he reported the matter to Katete Police Station when the incident occurred in Petauke.

And PF Provincial Chairperson Andrew Lubusha could not be reached for comment by News time.
