PATRIOTIC Front members in Matero constituency last Thursday physically lynched the PF parliamentary candidate Mulenga Kazhiya when he showed up five hours late at a meeting without campaign materials which he had promised them.
The incident happened in Lima Ward, George Compound when residents were informed that Kazhiya wanted to meet them and distribute campaign materials but the aspiring Member of Parliament showed up five hours late with only 20 pieces of chitenge materials.
The meeting which was scheduled to start at 09:00 only began at around 14:00 hours, which incensed the residents who waited in the scotching sun.
“It was bad. The youths slapped him and grabbed a cap he was wearing. He fell down and some stamped on him,” a source who attended the meeting .It was shocking that even ward officials did not come to his rescue when he was being beaten in full view of everyone,” the source said.
The source said PF Lusaka Province youth chairman Kennedy Kamba, who was also at the same meeting, tried to calm down the tempers at but failed as the anger was directed at the candidate.
“Kamba tried to help him. Even the materials that were distributed came from Kamba and the Lusaka province team. If ba Kamba was not there, things would have been bad,” the source said.
Kazhiya was also booed when he attempted to address the crowd as people shouted that they do not know him forcing Kamba to grab the megaphone from him when he sensed the resistance.
“Just greet them. Don’t talk too much,” Kamba was heard whispering to the candidate who was struggling to address the crowd.
