PF cadres being driven in two vans yesterday almost caused confusion in Petauke when they blocked UPND president Hakainde Hichilema’s motorcade heading for the Agricultural show grounds for a rally.
Quick police intervention helped prevent a full fledged conflict. After the motorcade was blocked, the PF cadres jumped out of their vehicles, carrying various offensive weapons and started hurling insults at the UPND team. Two police vehicles arrived at the scene but the violent cadres defied the police and started charging towards UPND cadre who were also now ready to retaliate.
Earlier in Mumbi, Mr. Hichilema’s motorcade was also stoned when passing through a PF rally that was by the roadside. And speaking at the show grounds rally, UPND official William Banda called on the police to be professional. Banda said if police do not defend other citizens equally, there would be break down in law and order in the country.
